AdMech: Inspiration: Official GW Adeptus Mechanicus models!

I'm so excited about the up-coming official GW release of Adeptus Mechanicus skitarii! The new models really capture the feel of the tech-guard end of the skitarii spectrum, in my mind. They're very different from the skitarii found in Titanicus (who were almost feral - with tattoos, totems, and so on, and were the guys I was emulating with my ork-based conversions), but they really match up to the guys from Dark Apostle and lots of other sources. And match well to lots of fan-made converted Skitarii.

Khorne: Lords of Blood: the Daemon-Primarch Angron and the Cruor Praetoria

No one would have believed in the early years of the 41st Millenium that the prosperous hive-world of Armageddon was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were being plotted against by their neighbours in sinister blood-cults; and that the capricious tides of the warp were catapulting a space hulk filled with the most devoted disciples of the Blood God towards the planet, to commence the first of three terrible wars that would cripple the great planet.
But still, they come.

I've always loved the tale of the Daemon-Primarch Angron and his bodyguard at the 1st War for Armageddon, the twelve terrifying Bloodthirsters known as the Cruor Praetoria. 109 Grey Knights standing proud against 13 of the greatest daemons of the Blood God? That's the stuff that epics are made of; that's 40k's answer to the Hot Gates of Thermopylae.

So I decided to make Angron and the Cruor Praetoria, and for Christmas I got the bits to get my plan started. And then, just as I began, the rumours hit that GW is making a new plastic Bloodthirster kit, and a new Khorne codex combining Berserkers and Daemons. Excellent...

I've started a new blog for my conversions over at http://khornate.blogspot.co.uk/ and will of course be copying articles posted there to here as well.

AdMech: Converting: Knight Warden

The Warden is my third Knight. Wardens are heavy support Knights, crewed by semi-retired veterans, which are only used in the direst of circumstances. The Epic models were very varied, but Warden 1 is probably the most famous: overlapping armour plates, stubby arms with gatling cannons, carapace mounted missile launcher.

AdMech: Converting: Knight Lancer

And here's the second Knight. This guy is a Lancer, a fast scout Knight armed with a battlecannon and a power lance. I wanted to keep some unifying elements (sentinel head, loin-banner, colour scheme), but shake things up and make it clearly a different type of Knight. And as it's meant to be a scout I wanted it more stream-lined and lanky...

AdMech: Converting & Painting: Knight Paladin

I'm currently preparing my Adeptus Mechanicus army for Armies on Parade. And I wanted some big impressive eye-catching centrepieces - I wanted Knights!

Step 1 was to do some research (you can tell I'm a librarian in real life, right?) So I devoured the original fluff and scoured the internet to see how other people had converted their Knights, and gathered all my findings and links into the uber-post here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=248882

AdMech: Inspiration: Asymmetrical Xeno

I've just found a very nice "Cult of the Dragon" AdMech army.

Made mostly by mixing Iron Brotherhood and Necron Warrior parts, it's a very dark and evil looking force. Marvellous!

Check it out here: http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?p=111032

Converted Verminlord

I don't really play WFB, but ever since I first saw the WFB Ogre standard top I knew I wanted to somehow use it as the head of a verminlord. Finally GW released the plastic Chaos Daemonprince, and the time was right! Sadly a couple of other mighty fine converters had the idea of using the Daemonprince first (one using the classic metal head and one with a rat ogre's head), so my model isn't quite as original as it could have been. Ah well!

My model should be fairly self-explanatory. One DP, one Ogre standard, one Rat Ogre tail, and vast amounts of greenstuff shoved on top of anywhere that had chaos-y symbols. Most of the greenstuff was just turned into fur, which is easy, but changing the daemon-face on the belt buckle into a horned rat was a bit more complex.

As I say, I don't collect WFB. So I've given the model as a birthday present to one of my good friends who does collect Skaven. Hopefully he'll give it a fitting paintjob and it can find a home in his army...

AdMech: Inspiration: MrManson

I've been pondering making a Kaban Machine at some point in the future, so was crawling the internet looking to see if anyone else had made one. And I stumbled across a beautiful Dark Mechanicus army made by a chap called MrManson.

AdMech: Inspiration: OddJob

Inspiration: OddJob

I'm working on making a converted C'tan-as-Omnissiah model. Whilst searching for cool pictures of other C'tan conversions, I discovered OddJob's AdMech. And by the Omnissiah they're awesome!

AdMech: Inspiration: Hortwerth

There are some stunning Adeptus Mechanicus armies out roaming free on the Interwebs. One that particularly inspired me was Hortwerth's, which uses Codex: Imperial Guard.
