I've got a couple of wreaths on order to add to the heads on his knee and shoulder, and obviously he needs the big greenstuff cloak and mantle. But he's getting there!
I'm working on a Unification-Era project, and decide to add some of the Emperor's foes, gene-bulked techno-berserkers. And then accidentally manage to make new models for my Daemonkin Army. Ah well! Here we have my first three three frothing mad berserkers. I'm no longer clear if they're from pre-Unity Terra, or the Khornate hoards of the 41st Millennium, or from Angron's pit-fighting pals in Nuceria: but they're definitely not just Age of Sigmar Khornate characters any more.
So armed with a power fist, a power sword, and a big bolter... The person who led the Thunder Warriors, obviously, was the Emperor. GW hasn't made a model for the Big Man, and none of the 3rd party models can be used at GW events, so I really wanted a suitable GW model to convert. For a while I flirted with using one of the Primarchs, then I remembered Inquisitor, the GW 54mm game. Captain Artemis was a possibility, he's a good Space Marine to base things off, but ultimately I ended up falling in love with the mixture of elaborate detail and brutal power that Witchhunter Tyrus has. This is the Emperor a few centuries before the classic GW paintings, the Emperor when he was unifying Terra not leading the Great Crusade or facing down Horus.
I'm a terrible hobby butterfly, never able to concentrate... Anyway. I've always loved the Thunder Warriors, with their distinctive overlapping banded shoulder pads, their epic helmet crests, their old-fashioned early armour design that is clearly the ancestor of but different to Space Marine Power Armour, and their brutal attitude. They were the Emperor's first genetically modified army, precursor to the Custodes and the Astartes, the army with which he conquered Terra.
Sorry about that! Here's something to make up for it: a conversion of the new Age of Sigmar Orruk Megaboss. Original plan was possibly for a pre-discovery Angron, but he's just too big and I didn't have a head that fitted which could be Angron (was tempted by the Ogre head with the chainmail face mask for a bit?) Instead he's ended up as a mini-Daemon Prince, some sort of Terminator Lord on the path to ascension. In game I'll probably run him as a Lord-on-Jugger, have him join the Bone Collectors (my Bloodcrushers).
Ever since, the Eldar have sought to control their emotions, to prevent such an event from happening again. But it is a hard road, and anger is one emotion it is hard to contain. The Rage of the Dying Race is a Herald of Khorne, formed from the overflowing fury of the Eldar: every time that an Exarch screams hatred at their foes; an Exodite vows revenge on aliens who have stepped upon their world; a Corsair spits in fury at an ambush gone wrong; or an ousted Archon curses their exile from Commorragh.
The perversions of the Eldar gave birth to Slaanesh, and now the Eldar have an entire way of life that attempts to deny Slaanesh by entirely focussing on other pursuits. But surely an entire slice of their population being that dedicated to the Path of the Warrior must have some sort of echo in the Warp? His loyal apothecary, Kagh Bo'orchu, is essential for this. It is Kagh who implants new members of the Skull Takers with the gene-seed and blood of their Primarch to turn them into true World Eaters; Kagh who was one of the first apothecaries to experiment with the Butchers' Nails; and Kagh who, after Angron's apotheosis, studied with Lorgar's Word Bearers to discover the secrets of the Possessed. The Daemon-Primarch Angron was accompanied to Armageddon by 12 Bloodthirster bodyguards, the Cruor Praetoria. I've now completed 6 of them, half way there! (Although the next 6 will all be of the bigger size, and I haven't made Angron either, so really I'm much less than half way there. Ah well.) I'm quite tempted to field the 6 of these as a 1,500pts Khorne Daemonkin Unbound force...
Angron's Bodyguard, the Cruor Praetoria, is now taking shape, with my 6 smaller Bloodthirsters all built. As you can see, they are all designed to be roughly the same size as the classic Bloodthirster in the middle. In game terms I can run them as normal Bloodthirsters (of Unfettered Fury) or as Daemon Princes - this will be particularly good for Codex: Khorne Daemonkin, if the rumours that some of the formations need non-Bloodthirster HQs are true, and as it seems like Daemon Princes can carry the cool artefacts that Bloodthirsters can't.
Mechanicus skitarii! The new models really capture the feel of the
tech-guard end of the skitarii spectrum, in my mind. They're very
different from the skitarii found in Titanicus (who were almost
feral - with tattoos, totems, and so on, and were the guys I was
emulating with my ork-based conversions), but they really match up to
the guys from Dark Apostle and lots of other sources. And match well to lots of fan-made converted Skitarii.
The fires of rebellion burnt bright across Armageddon Prime and Secundus. Whilst the hives were burning, in the Equatorial Jungle a series of small skirmishes occured that the Imperium never even knew about.
Deep in the jungle lies an ancient pyramid, the tip of a Necron stasis tomb. The Necrontyr of old despised the powers and creatures of the warp, and it was they who built the Cadian Pylons to stop the Eye of Terror from consuming the galaxy. On Armageddon, a small force of Bloodletters was sent to ensure the Necron pyramid would not be activated, in order to prevent them from resisting Angron's arrival. However, the first of the Necron forces were already rising, and a desperate clash ensued...

It's a Combat Patrol themed event, 500pts, no 2+ / 3++ saves, no models with 3 wounds or more, no named characters, no fliers, no vehicles with more than 33 armour. 1-2 Troops, 0-1 of everything else. For Khorne that leaves Bloodletters, foot Heralds, and Flesh Hounds. And I don't have any Hounds...
I want them to have more of a mini-Bloodthirster feel than the normal Bloodletters, more like the previous version of Bloodletters. And the best way to do that seemed to be Beastman Gors.
